Rufus Messenger
A young Connecticut Yankee from Granby,invented in 101 Acres of Pittsford land in 1791. Six years later, he added to his holding in Pittsford. Meanwhile, he and his wife had started reaising a family, and it was not until after 1803 that Rufus and Rosannah Messenger came west to Northfield. They lived in Pittsford first. 1811, they ""swapped"" their Pittsford land for Brighton land owned by Stephen Lusk. They lived on the south side of Elmwood Avenus west of Clover Street, where they reared eight children-six girls and two boys.

When Smallwood was divided and the Town ob Righton came into being in 1814. Messenger became Brighton's first welfare Officer, as well as a Pathmaster of the town.
Mr. Messenger died in Brighton January 30, 1835, leaving a will with the interest provision that if Rosannah remarried, she should receive only the mandated one-third of the this estate. But, 27 acres of the farm were to be given th his son Rufus, then living in Parma and the remainder of the land to his son Warren. The girls were to receive $100.00 Lavina (died of ""conjunction"" at the age of 46 in 1850) married Jonathan Gale and remained in Brighton along Warren and Nancy. Three of the girls were livein in Rochester; Anna, wife of Dr. Jacob Schaffer; Harriet wife of Silas Darrow; Philianda wife of John Neale; Fanny married Lucius Judson.
As soon Warren Messenger received a clear title from his mother, brother and sisters, he and his wife Jane A. Noble sold the Brighton Fram to Isaac Moore.
Young Rufus and his wife Eliza (Elizabeth Ann Barnes) moved to Rochester., where he was employed as a Carpenter.

Rufus Milo died in Peoria, Peoria Co., IL 1836? his wife remarried to a Jacob Ross Jr. in IL. Eliza and Jacob died in Kansas, Edwin Milo married Sarah Ann Bray from KY, they both died in MO in the 1880's. Chauncey Monroe Messenger married 3 times and our lived all. Had 10 children, 1 from first marriage and 9 from the second. First wife was Indian-Kitty from Oregon, Second Hester Elena Palmer from the lines of Lt. William Palmer who serviced under Myles Standish in Pymouth, Mass.

Lavina Messenger married Dr. Jonathan Gale lived and died in Brighton, Monroe Co., New York

Anna Messenger married Jacob Schaffer moved to Iowa had 3 daughters and both died in Clinton,Iowa.

Philinda Messenger married John Neale moved to Michigan

Harriet Messenger and Silas Darrow moved to Michigan

Fanny Messenger married Lucius Judson moved to Michigan

Warren Messenger married Jane A. Noble moved to Michigan

Search Revolutionary War Service Records, 1775-83   This database is a collection of records kept by the National Archives listing men who fought for the colonies during the war.  This database contains only those records available in the National Archives and may not include all persons involved in the American Revolutionary War.  Compiled Military Service Records (CMSR)Each volunteer soldier has one Compiled Military Service Record (CMSR) for each regiment in which he served.

Search Colonial Families in the U.S.   This database covers the families of the early English colonies in America. Beginning with the first landing at Jamestown this series covers families up through the start of the American Revolutionary War and beyond into the Nineteenth Century. Many vital records are included, as well as locations of births, marriages, and deaths. In addition to containing family genealogies this database also contains armorial bearings, or coats of arms, for some of the more prominent families from England and Scotland. 

Old Colony Ancestors Online   Access this database of nearly 200,000 names with roots in Southeastern Massachusetts, complete with citations, containing information on over 57,000 marriages, with a total of more than 950,000 text records. Some families are followed for only 2-3 generations, but many are traced for up to 15 generations. Once a family moved beyond the Southeastern Massachusetts area, most reports stop. Some are followed as they migrated westward into the Berkshires and up into Vermont and upstate New York.
